陈剑澜在《中国社会科学》2023年第1期撰文指出，中国现代美学起源于清末民初新旧文化更替之际，以“立人”为主旨。这个“人”不是传统宗法伦理关系中的人，而是现代意义上的个人主体。20世纪初，王国维热衷于德国早期审美论哲学，积极引介康德、席勒、叔本华等人的美学思想，尝试用这些外来思想会通中国传统审美经验，同时结合经验论观念以针砭时弊。王国维在主体论视野中进行的美学探索是中国现代美学的真正开端，他构建的审美理想论、艺术本体论和美育论框架对后世美学研究产生了重要影响。20世纪三四十年代以后新儒家将中国传统文化精神审美化的思路也可以追溯到王国维早年著述。今天，从观念史角度审视中国现代美学问题的缘起及其流变，既是为了正本清源，也是为了重续美学的人文之思。
